KARACHI: Former chairman Senate Mian Raza Rabbani said on Friday that ‘vote of confidence’ being taken by the Prime Minister without taking any action against alleged MNAs of his party, a vote of confidence will be of no avail.

The Prime Minister, in the address to the nation yesterday, admitted that 15-16 MNAs of his party have, for some consideration, not voted according to the party whip.

He further said, in any case, the ‘vote of confidence’ being taken by the Prime Minister is not a vote under the Constitution, 1973.

Clause (7), Article 91, Constitution, 1973, clearly states that when the President is satisfied that the Prime Minister does not enjoy confidence of the majority of the members of the National Assembly, in such a case, he shall summon the National Assembly and require the Prime Minister to obtain a vote of confidence from the Assembly.
