The United Nations has called upon G20 countries to set up an emergency task force to prepare a ‘Global Vaccination Plan’ against COVID-19.
In a statement, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said the task force should include all the countries having required expertise as well as production and financial capacities to ensure, together with World Health Organization and other technical and financial institutions, equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines in the regions affected by conflict and insecurity.
He said the progress on vaccination so far has been wildly uneven and unfair as only ten countries have administered 75 percent of all COVID-19 vaccines and more than 130 countries have not received a single dose.
