Mrs Sri Lanka beauty queen Pushpika De Silva suffered several head injuries after her crown was snatched on stage because she is divorced.

Pushpika De Silva was presented the ‘Mrs Sri Lanka’ crown on Sunday night by prime minister Mahinda Rajapaksa’s wife Shiranthi Rajapaksa.

Suddenly, Mrs World Caroline Jurie, appeared on stage and announced Ms De Silva cannot hold the title because she is divorced.

She said, “I am taking my first steps saying that the crown goes to the first runner up. There is a rule that prevents women who have already been married and are divorced.”

The entire scene was live and showed Ms Jurie hurriedly removed a set of pins ripping off Mrs Sri Lanka’s crown creating an intense brawl on stage.

However, Pushpika De Silva ended up in hospital after head wounds. De Silva later took to Facebook and described the incident as “injustice and insult”.

She also warned to take legal action against the entire scene.

She said: “I’m still an un-divorced woman. A true queen is not a woman who snatches another woman’s crown, but a woman who secretly sets another woman’s crown!”

De Silva further stated that she is separated from her husband and lives with her child and asked the jury to present evidence of the claims.

“I haven’t hidden from the world that I’m with my child. I also have personal reasons to be that way. But, being apart is one. Divorce is something else,” added the beauty pageant.

Furthermore, the organizers of the event said they would return the crown to Ms De Silva on Tuesday.
