PPP challenges election of Senate chairman in Islamabad High Court.
Farooq H Naik filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court on behalf of Senate Chairman candidate Yousuf Raza Gilani.
The petition filed by the PPP in the Islamabad High Court said that the rejected votes of Yousuf Raza Gilani should be accepted and declared as the chairman of the Senate.
The petition states that 7 votes of Yousuf Raza Gilani were rejected illegally.
Yousuf Raza Gilani requested in the petition that the rejection of seven votes be declared null and void.
It may be recalled that Yousuf Raza Gilani lost the election of Chairman Senate after 7 votes were rejected. Yousuf Raza Gilani got 42 votes.
Opposition senators outnumber the ruling coalition in the upper house of parliament, but opposition candidate Yousuf Raza Gilani lost the election.
The ruling coalition had 47 members in the Senate, while its backer, Sadiq Sanjarani of the Balochistan Awami Party, won with 48 votes.
