The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has rejected the results of the election for the chairmanship of the Senate.
PPP leader Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar in his statement said that we have two options, either we will go to court tomorrow morning or we will bring a no-confidence motion against Sadiq Sanjrani.
He said that the announcement of the final of the two options would be announced after consultation.
Regarding the issue, Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar tweeted on the social networking site that according to the Election Commission, the stamp on the name is correct and cannot be declared void.
He said that once again the election was stolen from us in broad daylight, there are several decisions of the court in which the stamp on the name of the candidate has been declared valid.
Earlier today, Government candidate Sadiq Sanjrani was re-elected chairman of the Senate, while Mirza Muhammad Afridi was elected deputy chairman, while Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) candidates Yousuf Raza Gilani and Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri have faced defeat.
98 members of the Upper House voted for the election of Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the Senate. Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani got 48 votes while his opponent Yousuf Raza Gilani got 42 votes and 7 votes were rejected. And one vote was rejected for marking both candidates.
In addition, Mirza Mohammad Afridi got 54 votes for the Deputy Chairman Senate seat while Abdul Ghafoor Haideri got 44 votes and no vote was rejected.
The newly elected chairman of the Senate was later sworn in by the presiding officer.
Senator Sadiq Sanjarani, after taking oath as Chairman Senate again, thanked the senators who voted for him and said that he would like to thank the entire House and the leadership of PTI and especially Pervez Khattak.
