The coronavirus vaccine will be given to the elderly over 60 years of age from today.
According to the health department, the Sinopharm vaccine is being given to people over 60 years of age.
Earlier, the Drug Regulatory Authority (DRAP) had given permission to administer Chinese vaccine Sinopharm to people over 60 years of age.
DRAP also allowed the Russian vaccine Sputnik to be given to people over the age of 60.
DRAP officials said the decision was made on the recommendations of a six-member expert committee.
The decision to administer the Chinese and Russian vaccines was based on data from China, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates, officials said.
DRAP officials had warned that the elderly would be monitored for two days after the vaccination, while taking all precautions, including masks, even after the vaccine was given.
