ISLAMABAD: The Sindh government on Friday filed a review petition in the Supreme Court against the acquittal of prime accused in the Daniel Pearl murder case.

Law department of Sindh has issued instructions to the Prosecutor General to file the Review.

Earlier, Supreme court’s order to release Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh has sparked global outrage while the United States called it “an affront to terrorism victims everywhere” and demanded the Pakistani government “review its legal options.”

The petition, filed by the Prosecutor General Sindh, also requested for an early hearing of the matter.

Pearl was working as the South Asia bureau chief of the Wall Street Journal in 2002 when he was kidnapped in the southern Pakistani city of Karachi, while reporting on Richard Reid, the British terrorist known as the “shoe bomber.”
