The Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), an anti-government coalition of opposition parties in Pakistan, has issued show cause notices to the PPP and the Awami National Party (ANP).
According to sources, both parties have been directed to state their reasons within 7 days.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman as the head approved the show cause notices. Notices of reasons were sent by Secretary General PDM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.
Show cause notices have been sent to PPP in the name of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and ANP in the name of Asfandyar Wali. The show cause notice seeks response from the opposition leader for seeking the support of his father’s senators.
Both parties have been asked to respond to the violation of PDM principles.
According to sources, the text of the notices states that the move of PPP and ANP has harmed the opposition alliance and the movement.
Pakistan Peoples Party leader and Senate opposition leader Yousuf Raza Gilani has confirmed receiving the notice.
It may be recalled that the PDM had decided that the opposition leader in the upper house would be from the PML-N, but the PPP fielded Yousuf Raza Gilani.
The PPP’s move was strongly condemned and harsh statements were exchanged. The PPP’s disagreement with the decision to resign from the assemblies is also being considered as a reason for differences in the PDM. Sources said that cracks in the anti-government coalition have deepened since the last PDM meeting.
