Russia has recalled its ambassador to the United States following President Biden’s statement against alleged Russian interference in the US election.
According to a foreign news agency, in an interview with a US TV channel, President Biden had said that Russian President Putin would have to pay the price for interfering in the US elections.
He was responding to a question on a US intelligence report accusing Russia and Iran of meddling in US elections.
Biden had said that sanctions would be imposed on Russia if it interfered in the US elections
Russia has strongly denied the allegations in a statement issued Friday stating “Similar, baseless allegations concerning Russia’s intelligence have been made more than once.
Russia’s foreign ministry said in a statement that Anatoly Antonov had been summoned to Moscow for consultations on the future of Russia-US relations.
The statement said relations with the United States were at a critical juncture and that the recall of the ambassador was being taken to prevent irreparable damage to bilateral relations.
