ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has submitted schedule of local bodies election in Supreme Court of Pakistan on Thursday.

Election Commission, in its reply to the apex court, has stated that local government polls will be held in Punjab on July 20 while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and cantonment boards will hold the election on April 8.

The commission further said that decision regarding date of the elections in Sindh and Balochistan will be taken on February 11.

Earlier on last Thursday, the apex court asked the Election Commission to furnish a comprehensive reply within a week on holding the LG polls.

The court also ordered the provinces to furnish their replies in a week. Pointing towards Chief Election Commissioner Sikander Sultan Raja, who was present in the court along with four members of the commission, Justice Qazi Faez Isa observed that all institutions of the country were bound to assist and cooperate with the ECP in the holding of the elections.

During the same hearing, the CEC told the court that the dissolution of local bodies departments in Punjab was an unconstitutional move over which Justice Qazi Faez Isa asked about the action against the provincial authorities.
