Coronavirus pandemic has once again strengthened its roots in Pakistan as the national tally of infections reached 416,499.

According to the data by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), 3,308 new cases have been reported in the past 24 hours. On the contrary, 58 patients have died. The death toll from Covid-19 reached 8,361.

Sources said that 41,645 samples were tested in the previous 24 hours out of which 3,308 came positive.

NCOC said that the positivity ratio of fresh Covid-19 cases stands at 7.94 percent.

Earlier, Punjab’s Health Minister Dr. Yasmin Rashid and Secretary Jawad Rafique Malik chaired an emergency meeting to review the status of coronavirus cases in Lahore.

As per the details, the situation regarding the surge in coronavirus cases in Lahore has been discussed in the meeting. In addition to this, health authorities have been given directives to immediately operationalize 300 high-dependency beds for serious patients at the Expo Center.

Secretary Specialized Healthcare Nabil Awan said that the Health Department has issued directions to medical superintendents of Services, Jinnah, and General hospitals to operationalize the high-dependency units (HDUs) and intensive care units (ICUs) at the same emergency level as these were functioning in June 2020.
