The Federal Cabinet on Tuesday has given formal approval of castration punishment for rape convicts.
According to the details, Prime Minister Imran Khan presided the cabinet session in Islamabad that approved castration punishment for rape convicts.
The approval was given after the law ministry presented a draft of the anti-rape ordinance. The also includes increasing women’s role in policing, fast-tracking rape cases and witness protection.
PM Imran Khan on the occasion said no such delay will be tolerated. “We need to ensure a safe environment for our citizens.”
Imran Khan said that the legislation will be transparent and clear with strict enforcement. He said the rape survivors will be able to register complaints without fear, adding that the government will protect their identity.
Earlier Citing the example of foreign countries, he stated that in foreign countries pedophiles are properly registered and tracked down by the governments. He further added that the government could also deal with rapists and sexual abusers are by handing them exemplary punishments.
“They should be hanged on streets,” he said. However, he maintained that the government later came to know that being an accord of the Generalized Scheme of Preferences (GSP) status by the European Union the government cannot practice the action of public hangings as it would not be acceptable globally.
