The Women’s U-17 World Cup in India, which was postponed to 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic, was cancelled by the FIFA and the country was handed the hosting rights of the 2022 edition.

According to the details, FIFA postponed the women’s Under-17 World Cup scheduled to be held in India in 2021 due to coronavirus pandemic, however, India will remain the host of the Under-17 tournament in 2022. The tournament was originally scheduled to be held in November this year but later was postponed to February-March next year due to the spike in the COVID-19 cases in the country.

Praful Patel, who is member of FIFA Council in India tweeted that:

We thank FiFa for its support & now eagerly look forward to 2022.The journey we have made so far has given our women footballers confidence to compete at the highest level & we are committed to steering women’s football in the right direction to ensure it achieves grater heights.

Let it be known that India has recorded 38,616 new coronavirus infections on Wednesday taking the national toll of infections to 8.9 million.

Union Health Ministry of India said that the death toll climbed to 130993 with 474 new fatalities. The total recoveries have surged to 83,35,109 pushing the national recovery rate to 93.52 per cent.
