The People in Gilgit Baltistan today are heading to cast their ballots in GB elections 2020 to elect the government for the next five years.

The top three political parties, Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI), Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), and Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) are battling or power in the strategic northern region.

According to the details, polling for GB elections 2020 will be held for 23 out of a total of 24 seats up for grabs in the region’s Legislative Assembly. Voting for one seat has been postponed after the death of a candidate.

More than 700,000 voters will exercise their right of franchise elect 24 candidates in Gilgit-Baltistan elections 2020, where leaders of all top national political parties are currently busy delivering fiery speeches against each other and making pledges and promises ahead of the polls. The area has a population of about 1.3 million and a total of 745,361 voters has registered, of which roughly half or 339,992 are women.

At least 330 candidates will contest this ballot exercise for the 33-member Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly. GB has 24 constituencies and its assembly has 33 seats.

Gilgit-Baltistan GB comprises two divisions, seven districts, and 22 tehsils. Skardu and Ghanche are in Baltistan Division, while Diamer, Ghizar, Gilgit, Astore, and Hunza Nagar are in Gilgit Division.

The polls are being held under comprehensive security arrangements. Government spokesman Faizullah Firaq has assured the people of fair and free polls.
