The Larkana police said on Friday that the prime suspect in the Kashmore gang-rape has been killed by an accomplice.

According to Nasir Aftab, Larkana’s Deputy Inspector-General (DIG), Rafiq Malik, the main suspect of the horrific case, was shot dead by an accomplice as the police drove him to an area to identify the whereabouts of others suspected of committing the crime.

He further said that Rafiq’s accomplices had opened fire at him when saw him with the police. Rafiq lost his life on the way to the hospital.

According to sources, a police team along with Malik proceeded to Bakhshapur on the under-custody suspect’s lead about the hideout of his alleged accomplice, Bugti. When the police team reached near RD-109 locality along the Sindh-Balochistan border, it was attacked with firearms. In the ensuing gun battle, Rafiq Malik was hit by bullets fired by the attacker, who later turned out to be Khairullah Bugti, the police said.
