The rising prices of essential items in the country has broken all the records of past years, the price of wheat touched a historic high of Rs2400 per 40kg for the first time in Pakistan.
The price of the commodity reached Rs2400 per 40kg on October 5.
The National Price Monitoring Committee (NPMC) has also called upon the Provincial Administrations to remain vigilant and control the prices of essential commodities including tomato, potato, wheat, and sugar through strict price enforcement.
These Committee held a meeting in Islamabad to discuss the reasons for increase in prices of essential commodities with particular focus on perishable items with the Special Secretary Finance in the chair.
The meeting said that focus should be to minimize price disparity between the wholesale and retail prices of the essential commodities, which leads to inflation.
The meeting also urged Provincial Governments to take corrective measures to check undue profit margin on basic commodities.
All Pakistan Flour Association has demanded the federal and provincial governments to immediately announce official purchase price of wheat.
