Director General ISPR Major General Babar Iftikhar said the Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa  had two separate meetings with PML-N leader and former Governor Sindh Muhammad Zubair.

In an interview with a private news channel, DG ISPR also said, during those meetings, the Army Chief made these remarks that the army should be kept away from political affairs.

He said the Army Chief expressed the opinion that political issues should be resolved in the parliament while legal matters be decided in courts of law.

The Director General ISPR said both the meetings were held on request of Muhammad Zubair during which the former Governor took up matters relating to former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

Meanwhile, Mr. Zubair confirmed that he met the army chief at the end of August and during September.

In a tweet, he referred to the army chief as “an old friend”, adding that their families had also met over dinners in the past and their discussion revolved mostly around economy, politics and around Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz as well.
