Earlier this month, PEMRA banned the popular drama serial Jalan, airing from ARY digital, owing to its indecent and irreligious turn of the storyline. However, Sindh High Court (SHC) has overruled the decision, permitting the channel to premiere fresh episodes. Jalan is about an illicit affair between a man and his sister-in-law.

Outrage regarding the drama’s plot has been brewing on social media ever since the drama began airing. Earlier, PEMRA said that it was reviewing complaints filed against the drama. The channel was directed to review its content. Film critic Omair Alvi took on twitter to announce the Sindh High Court decision.

He said that the order to ban drama Jalan has been suspended by the Sindh High Court and the drama’s 14th episode will be aired as per schedule.

Alvi remarked that the decision to air the drama was taken because PEMRA’s job is to regulate content, not ban it.

The cast of Jalan includes actress Manal Khan, Areeba Habib, and Emmad Irfani among others.
