ISLAMABAD: Retired Lt Gen Asim Saleem Bajwa on Thursday announced that he has decided to resign as special assistant to the prime minister (SAPM) on information, categorically rejected the allegations levelled against him in a news item uploaded on a website by a journalist, which was totally false and aimed at maligning his reputation.
Talking to the private news channel in a program, Bajwa said he will continue to serve as the chairman of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Authority.
Earlier in a day he issued a press statement explaining all the allegations level against him.
“I have not shied away to explain the allegations shamelessly levelled against me. These allegations have been hurled at me to tarnish my image,” he said in a statement.
He said a random mention had been made of the companies, businesses and properties, owned by his brothers and children, with sweeping allegations regarding their evaluation and propriety.
Emphatically, all the adverse insinuations levelled in the news item in question were materially false, he added.
