UMERKOT: Independence day was celebrated with zeal, following the SOPs amid COVID-19 protocols, here on Friday. The central ceremony was held at Municipal Committee Umerkot ground.
It was attended by Distt Chairman Syed Noor Ali Shah, DC Nadeem Ur Rehman Memon, SSP Syed Amir Abbas and MC Chairman Khalid Siraj Soomro, they hoisted the national flag and police personal paid guard of honor.
Students presented tableaus and dance on national songs. A rally led by the spiritual leader of Jeelani Jamait taken out from Tando Allahyar had a short break at Umerkot and moved to Chhachhro.
Another rally led by the son of former CM Sindh Arbab Ghulam Rahim and other GDA members was also taken out from Mirpurkhas to the local press club. The third rally led by PTI MNA Lal Malhi was taken out from his residence to the local press club.
Speakers remembered national heroes and their sacrifices. They paid homage to their heroes. They stressed the need to be united, ensure peace, harmony, and brotherhood.
Special prayers were offered at mosques, temples by Muslims and Hindus for the prosperity, stability, peace in Pakistan and Kashmir.
