ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has announced the government will celebrate Aug 9 as Tiger Force Day on which volunteers from the Corona Relief Tiger Force will lead a tree plantation campaign across the country.
The volunteer force was launched in June this year to assist the civilian administration in its handling of the coronavirus pandemic. Later on, the prime minister had sought their help to assist the government in its mission to tackle climate change and battle the locust invasion.
Speaking to the volunteers through a pre-recorded address shared on Twitter, Imran said: “To all the volunteers, I am telling you that you have to lead this [campaign] on Aug 9. Our youth and school students must participate in this exercise.”
He added that planting trees in the country was necessary for tackling the adverse effects of global warming and combating an increase in pollution.
The prime minister concluded his message by appealing to citizens to volunteer for the force, adding that the government was planning to set a record for planting the most amount of trees on this day.
