The 152nd death anniversary of classical Urdu poet Mirza Asadullah Baig Khan Ghalib is being observed today on (Monday).
Ghalib wrote hundreds of Ghazals during his life which have since been interpreted and sung in many different ways.
A special event named ‘Ghalib Fehmi’ was organized at the Arts Council of Pakistan on Sunday to pay honor to him. Scholar Dr. Noman-ul-Haq and others talked about the artist.
His letters and poetry are still highly popular, readers still purchase books and read the content written by the veteran poet.
His real name was Mirza Asad Ullah Khan Ghalib. He has used Ghalib in his poetry as Takhallus.
Ghalib was born on 27th December 1797 in Agra. His father’s name was Abdullah Baig. He got married to Umrao Begum at the age of thirteen. He did not bear children.
His letters and poetry have been compiled in several books, including Deewan-e-Ghalib. A lot of films were made on Ghalib’s life as well.
Mirza Asadullah Baig Khan Ghalib is considered, in South Asia, to be one of the most popular and influential poets of the Urdu language.
Ghalib today remains popular not only in India and Pakistan but also amongst the communities around the world.
Mirza Ghalib died on this day at the age of 71 in New Delhi in 1869.
