Renowned comedian of Pakistan, Moin Akhter, who passed away in 2011, is being remembered on his 70th birth anniversary.
Pakistan is known for giving some legendary artists to the world that won our hearts with the talents and enjoy a massive fan following across the world. Akhter was one of them.
Born on this day in 1950 in Karachi, Moin Akhter won critical acclaim with his famous show called Loose Talk wherein he impersonated over 400 characters.
Besides, fans still remember him for his legendary performance in Half Plate and his stand-up comedy called ‘Bakra Qiston Per’ and Buddha Ghar Pe Hai with the living legend Umer Sharif.
From theater to the silver screen, Moin Akhtar’s work introduced nonstop laughter for everyone and became popular among the entertainment loving audience.
He made his television debut on 6 September 1966, in a variety show on Pakistan Television (PTV) to celebrate the first Defence Day of Pakistan. He started as a comedian in 1966 by impersonating the Hollywood actor Anthony Quinn and mimicked one of the former USA’s president John F Kennedy’s speeches.
He was fluent in several languages, including English, Bengali, Sindhi, Punjabi, Memon, Pashto, Gujarati and Urdu.
Achievements
He was awarded an Honorary Citizenship of Dallas in 1996 for his achievements. He won the Special Award for Comedy in The 1st Indus Drama Awards in 2005. Moreover, he won the Pride of Performance award in 1996 by the Government of Pakistan and Sitara-e-Imtiaz in 2011.
