Interior Minister of Pakistan Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad has said that holding Senate elections through a show of hands would bring transparency in the system.
According to the details, he was addressing media on Thursday. The Interior Minister said that the Supreme Court would be approached by filing a constitutional reference to hold Senate elections through a show of hands.
“It will be a revolution in Pakistan’s election history.” Added Rasheed.
Sheikh Rasheed said that he would request Prime Minister Imran Khan to increase the salary of Islamabad police, however, the capital has witnessed a 20% reduction in crime.
It should be noted that the Opposition has repudiated the government’s plan to hold Senate elections early this time saying they will not allow anyone to repeat the “unconstitutional tactics” for the polls in the upper house as were “employed” during the “2018 general elections”.
According to a statement issued by the Bilawal House on Wednesday, PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari spoke with PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz and discussed the political situation arising after the PDM public meetings.
In the recent federal cabinet meeting, the government would seek an opinion from the Supreme Court by filing a constitutional reference under Article 186, the meeting decided.
