Actor, writer, director, and engaging conversationalist, Kamal Ahmed Rizvi passed away on this day in 2015.
Rizvi had excelled in highlighting social evils through comedy and satire. Rizvi, 85, became famous after playing his role in one of the PTV’s most celebrated sitcoms Alif Noon alongside Rafi Khawar (Nanha) in the 1970s and 80s. His role in Mr Shaitan was also very popular amongst the audience.
Born in Bihar, India in 1930, he migrated to Karachi after the creation of Pakistan in 1947.
During his early days in Karachi, he lived in an apartment in the Arambagh area, before moving to Lahore to meet his idol, the renowned short story writer Saadat Hasan Manto with whom he spent a lot of precious time in Lahore in the early 1950s, and was influenced by him.
Kamal Ahmad Rizvi was awarded Pride of Performance in 1989 for his tremendous contribution in drama writing, acting, and direction.
He was considered to be one of the trendsetters of situation comedy TV dramas in Pakistan in the early 1980s.
Before his death, Kamal had survived a serious heart attack in 1993.
