At least two people died and several others were injured after a two-story building collapsed in Bihar Colony in Karachi’s Lyari district on Sunday, according to the police.

Several people are trapped under the rubble of a collapsed building — the second such incident in a week — and rescue operation is underway, the police said.

Both the wounded people and the deceased were taken to the Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital in Karachi.

Speaking about the collapse of the building, Sindh Governor Imran Ismail called for responsibility for the loss and damages.

“The Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) has been a nightmare for Karachi. We need to rethink our SBCA policy, it doesn’t work at all,” he tweeted.

The president of the PTI chapter of Karachi and a member of the Sindh Assembly, Khurram Sher Zaman, called for speeding up the rescue operation.

SBCA officers who have shown lack of care should be arrested, he said, adding that the authority had become an ATM for the government of Sindh.

“The Sindh government should be ashamed of the numerous accidents that have resulted in the loss of life,” he said.

Zaman also guided Tiger Force volunteers to help with rescue work.
